Warriors vs. Mavericks game postponed due to assistant coach Dejan Milojević’s passing
The Golden State Warriors’ scheduled game against the Dallas Mavericks has been postponed due to the passing of assistant coach Dejan Milojević, the NBA said on Thursday.
At the age of 46, Milojević passed away on Wednesday following his hospitalization on Tuesday due to a heart attack.
In light of Milojević’s demise, Golden State’s scheduled Wednesday game against the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City was also postponed.
Before turning to coaching in 2012, Milojević spent several years as a professional player in his native Serbia.
After guiding Mega Basket from 2012 to 2020 and Budućnost in 2021, he was hired as an assistant by Warriors head coach Steve Kerr in August of the same year.
According to ESPN, Milojević coached several players who went on to become NBA stars while he was in Serbia, including center and two-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokić of the Denver Nuggets.
In 2022, Milojević helped the Warriors win an NBA title during his first season as an assistant under Kerr.
With Milojević as a vital member of the squad, the Dubs made the playoffs again the previous year, defeating the Sacramento Kings in the first round before falling to the Los Angeles Lakers in the second.
With an 18–22 record so far this season, Golden State sits two games behind the Lakers for the final slot in the postseason play-in tournament and is now ranked 12th in the Western Conference.
The Warriors lost their most recent game, 116-107, to the Memphis Grizzlies; it was their fourth defeat in five meetings.
Dates for the Warriors’ postponed games against the Jazz and Mavericks have not yet been announced by the NBA. The Golden State Warriors’ next scheduled game is on January 24 at home against the Atlanta Hawks.
