Breaking News: Earlier Today, Vols Named A News Head Coach After Suspending Josh Heupel.

Legend of the Tennessee Vols identified as a candidate for newly available college head coaching position

Tee Martin, a former Tennessee Vols quarterback, was mentioned this week as a possible candidate for the newly available head coaching position in college football.

The rumor that South Alabama head coach Kane Wommack would be hired by incoming Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer as his defensive coordinator leaked on Monday.

Before taking over as South Alabama’s head coach in 2021, Wommack served as Indiana’s defensive coordinator in 2019 and 2020.

He collaborated with DeBoer at Indiana during the 2019 season (DeBoer was the offensive coordinator for the Hoosiers); the two play callers were defeated by Tennessee and Jeremy Pruitt in the Gator Bowl at the conclusion of the 2019 campaign.

Martin, the quarterbacks coach for the Baltimore Ravens right now, was immediately mentioned by AL.com as a potential successor to Wommack as South Alabama’s head coach.

Martin, a native of Alabama, is now looking for his first head coaching position.

Although Martin seems like a great fit for South Alabama, the timing is a little off. With their #1 seed in the AFC playoffs, the Ravens have a real chance to make it to the Super Bowl. Martin’s primary goal is most likely to assist the Ravens in winning a title. Furthermore, it’s unlikely that South Alabama will want to wait until February to choose a head coach.

In addition, Martin may get some attention from NFL teams as an offensive coordinator, particularly with all the coaching changes taking place this summer.

Martin was the wide receivers coach at Tennessee in 2019–2020, which was his last position at the collegiate level.
