A Philadelphia Eagles player has been charged with kidnapping and rape.
Josh Sills of the Philadelphia Eagles football team is accused of having nonconsensual intercourse with a woman in December 2019 and holding her against her will, according to a grand jury indictment.
Josh Sills, an offensive lineman for the Philadelphia Eagles, was charged with rape and kidnapping on Tuesday in Ohio. This comes just two weeks before the club is ready to play the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
The Ohio Attorney General’s Office stated in a statement on Wednesday that Sills, who is in his rookie season with the NFL, was indicted on one count of rape and one count of kidnapping by a Guernsey County Common Pleas Court grand jury.
When the 6-foot-6-inch guard was still a collegiate player and playing for the West Virginia Mountaineers in December 2019, there is an alleged incident that gave rise to both first-degree felony charges. Sills is charged in the indictment with having sex with a woman against her will and having nonconsensual relations with her.
According to the statement, “the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office conducted a full investigation after the offence was reported promptly.”
In court on February 16, which is less than a week after the Super Bowl, is 25-year-old Sills. The Ohio Attorney General’s Office’s Special Prosecutions Section is handling the criminal prosecution.
According to Eagles senior vice president of communications Bob Lange, the team is aware of the claims, as NPR reported. “We are currently obtaining additional information and have been in contact with the league office. In an email statement, Lange stated, “At this time, we have no other comments.”
This past spring, Sills, an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma State University, was signed by the Eagles. This season, he appeared in just one game.
