Bluenoses showed their colors and travelled in force for the pre-season match in Spain, where goals from Wales internationals Jordan James and Tyler Roberts gave it two victories from two.
This was the latest stop on the road to the 2023/24 Sky Bet Championship season, with the next stop being at Northampton Town on Wednesday 19 July, kick-off 7.45pm.
Ruddy spoke to BluesTV after the triumph at the Pinatar Arena, thanking those who traveled overseas and looking ahead to the midweek meeting at Sixfields.
“[They are] brilliant; coming out here is not easy.” They’re dealing with the heat as well, so kudos to them for their efforts. It’s my first experience with an away game, or a foreign tour with the Club, so it’s exciting to watch.
“Another difficult game, but another good game for us.” We’ll have another tremendous crowd [in Northampton], which is always encouraging. We’re looking forward to that, and like you mentioned, we have a couple more days of work until we play another game.”The goalkeeper was talking at the end of Blues’ week-long training camp in Spain, a cornerstone of what is his 20th pre-season as a professional.
And he explained the great value of this time away, highlighting how activities both on and off the field will aid the togetherness of John Eustace’s team heading into the new campaign.
“These are always great trips for that. I am a big believer in these weeks away. It is hard work, first and foremost, but it also gives everyone a chance to get together, get to know each other a little bit, get used to being on top of each other and get used to the demands that are going to be placed on each other as well and build that culture that the Head Coach wants.
“That togetherness and that hard work aspect comes through and I think that has shown in the last two games.”
