Prior to last season, Travis Kelce was a brilliant Kansas City Chiefs player, a Super Bowl winner, and one of Patrick Mahomes’ most devastating weapons. However, since his connection with pop diva Taylor Swift became public a year ago, Travis has gained star status that he did not have previously, and while he won the Super Bowl again this season, things have not been the same as before.
In reality, his performances this season have been dismal, and many supporters attribute his lack of focus to spending more time with Swift rather than concentrating on football. Yes, Kelce hasn’t been the same, but every superstar experiences setbacks in their careers. At least, that’s what Chiefs coach Andy Reid says.
Andy Reid isn’t concerned about Travis Kelce’s sluggish start, even though some Chiefs fans and fantasy football managers are. Kelce, who averaged 61.9 yards per game during his outstanding career, has only 69 yards on eight catches through three games this season. Furthermore, the 34-year-old tight end has failed to score a touchdown, prompting speculation that age is catching up with him.
Todd McShay is among the naysayers who have even blamed Kelce’s “partying” with Taylor Swift throughout the summer. Reid, though, isn’t having it. He dismissed the worries and made it plain that he doesn’t believe the story that Kelce is past his prime. Reid said with confidence, “I know people are saying that he’s old or that he has distractions, but defenses don’t think that,” according to Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports.
Rejecting critics, Reid said, “Trav is fine and working hard.” Reid believes that Kelce is continuing to work hard and perform the important role for which he is recognized. “Trav is doing fine,” Reid comforted. “Trav just remains Trav. He works his tail off. He hasn’t stumbled. He isn’t sidetracked. [Defenses] are ensuring his well-being.” Reid believes that Kelce will eventually regain his rhythm once more.
Kelce himself isn’t sweating it either. On his podcast, The New Heights, he expressed that he’s not concerned about personal stats or targets as long as the Kansas City Chiefs are winning. “Whatever it is, it’s football, baby,” Kelce said with his usual laid-back attitude. “Come on now. I’m not getting caught up in getting the targets and all that. I just want to have a successful offense.
Kelce appears content as long as the Chiefs are winning with a 3-0 record, and supporters may want to adopt a similar mindset. Kelce will have another opportunity to show everyone why he remains one of the finest in the game when the team plays the Los Angeles Chargers.
