Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes and the Bengals’ Joe Burrow are “The Gold Standard Right Now.”
Over the last five years, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have dominated the NFL, winning three Super Bowls. For this reason, signal-caller Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals recently referred to the Chiefs as “the gold standard right now.”
According to Burrow, “They’re the gold standard right now,” Ben Baby of ESPN said on Sunday. “They have attended four of the last [five] Super Bowls and what, six consecutive AFC championships?
“So that’s where we want to be.”
Had it not been for Burrow and the Bengals, who defeated the Chiefs in the 2021 AFC Championship, the Chiefs would have won five straight AFC titles. The next year, Cincinnati was on the verge of victory in the conference title game once more, but the Chiefs prevailed thanks to a game-winning field goal.
A Chiefs-Bengals AFC title game trilogy was likely prior to this season, but Burrow’s preseason calf injury hindered his progress.
He began to play well in the middle of the season, but after 10 games, he suffered a damaged wrist ligament that ended his season.
But if Burrow returns healthy, the Bengals ought to be back in the AFC race. Although Mahomes and the Chiefs remain unmatched, a number of teams and elite quarterbacks are chasing them in an attempt to unseat the undisputed leaders.
Nevertheless, Mahomes has shown himself to be nearly unbeatable. He has lost two of his three postseason games to Tom Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl champion. The other matchup came against Burrow, a terrific player with a very promising future.
Aside from that, Mahomes has won Super Bowls with his franchises. If he wins one more, he’ll become the only starting quarterback to ever win four or more Super Bowls, along with Brady, Joe Montana, and Terry Bradshaw.
