Ex-QB for the Vikings retires from the NFL after a lengthy career, and he joins the coaching staff of the Packers to collaborate with Jordan Love.
Throughout his career, Sean Mannion was a player for the Rams, Vikings, and Seahawks.
Sean Mannion declared his career over. After nine seasons in the NFL, the journeyman quarterback has decided to retire, but he won’t be leaving anytime soon. According to ESPN, Mannion has taken a job on head coach Matt LaFleur’s staff at the Green Bay Packers, making the quick transition into coaching. The 31-year-old will apparently assist with quarterbacks and the passing game, even though no official title was specified.
The offensive coordinator for the Packers under LaFleur is Adam Stenavich, while the quarterbacks coach is Tom Clements and the wide receivers and passing game coordinator is Jason Vrable.
Quarterback Jordan Love, who will be starting his second season as a full-time starter, will now work with Mannion. After replacing Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay, the former first-round choice made an impression and helped the team defeat the Dallas Cowboys, advancing to the divisional round.
After graduating from Oregon State, Mannion was selected by the St. Louis Rams in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Before earning a contract with the Vikings in 2019, he was a member of the team throughout its relocation to Los Angeles. That began a succession of tenure switches between Minnesota and Seattle in the latter part of his career. Mannion spent a total of three distinct terms with both organizations. This included his last season in the league in 2023, which started in mid-October when he joined the practice squad of the Vikings. Upon his release in late November, he joined the practice squad of Seattle.
Throughout his career, Mannion was a 0–3 starter who completed 60.9% of his passes for 573 yards, three interceptions, and a touchdown.
