Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (KDKA) — Regarding quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, the Pittsburgh Steelers have made a decision.
Pressley Harvin III, the punter, and offensive tackle Chukwuma Okorafor were released by the Steelers on Monday.
Trubisky agreed to a new three-year deal with the team in May 2023, which was valid through the 2025 campaign. In 2022, he signed a two-year contract during free agency.
After replacing injured starter Kenny Pickett for two games during the previous season, Mason Rudolph, who helped the team win the playoffs, started on the bench in place of Trubisky. This summer, Rudolph is a free agent.
Throughout his two seasons with the black and gold, Trubisky started seven games and made 12 appearances. In that time, he completed eight throws for touchdowns and ten interceptions.
Last week, Steelers president and owner Art Rooney II stated that he would want to see Rudolph back in the black and gold for the upcoming season in an interview with Bob Pompeani of KDKA-TV. Rooney did not completely rule out trading for a quarterback as well.
“We have a lot of evaluations to go through, and we’ll go through all the options and do what we need to do to be better this coming season,” he stated to Pompeani.
The Steelers selected Harvin in the seventh round of the 2021 draft, and he has played in 47 games in the previous three seasons.
In the 2018 draft, Okorafor was selected in the third round. After starting at least 15 games in each of the preceding three years, he only started seven games the previous season.
Pompeani reports that as a result of Monday’s roster changes, Pittsburgh has added between $12 and $13 million in cap space.
