Matthew Stafford, QB for the Rams, Shares His Secret to Success in 2023
Matthew Stafford, the quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams, acknowledged the contributions of his teammates to his own success this season.
A big portion of the Los Angeles Rams’ return to the NFC playoff picture may be attributed to quarterback Matthew Stafford’s recovery.
The Rams, who had a 3-6 record at the beginning of the season, have since improved to 6-7, and Stafford has returned from an injury he suffered in a loss to the Dallas Cowboys earlier in the season. When asked if he thought he had progressed as a player this season at his media availability on Wednesday, Stafford chose to give credit to the rest of his squad instead of accepting the compliment.
“I always strive to get better, week by week, and as I mentioned earlier, every game is different, right?” stated Stafford. What is expected of me? What do I have to do that week? Going out there and playing at a high level is always the goal, but occasionally that takes a different form.
I’m just happy for the boys. I know that the players in front of me are blocking if I’m playing well. The guys outside are opening out and grabbing hold of it. We’re using efficient ball movement. It’s an amazing sport for teams. Everyone must do everything.”
Even after Sunday’s overtime loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Stafford still has a lot of credit for the offensive revival that has been witnessed in Los Angeles in recent weeks. He said on Wednesday that he has the same mindset and doesn’t change his concentration from game to game in order to succeed every week.
“I’m just trying to make sure that when everything is right around me and my number is called to go out there and do my job as best I possibly can,” Stafford stated. “Knowing that the guys surrounding me are all fighting for the same goal—winning the game—and that they are all working toward the same objective.”
If the NFC playoff seeding was determined today, the Rams would be on the outside looking in, but over the next several weeks, they could have the chance to get back into the top seven seeds in the conference. When Los Angeles hosts the Washington Commanders on Sunday, it will start its home stretch of the regular season.
The game is scheduled to kick off at 1:05 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on CBS.
