Elton Jantjies of Springbok is banned for four years.
Fly-half for South AfricaDue to a positive test result for the prohibited chemical clenbuterol, Elton Jantjies has been suspended for four years.
A “Presence of Prohibited Substance or its Metabolites or Makers in a Athlete’s Sample” was reported by the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sports (SAIDS) on their website on Thursday.
Additionally, SAIDS attested to the fact that Jantjies was not able to use his right to have his case heard by an Independent Doping Hearing Panel (IDHP), and a written ruling was made.Soon after the ban was imposed, a Jantjies representative released a statement. “Elton would prefer not to speak with the media and his legal team is working on the case/appeal,” the statement said. Indeed, he is aware of the penalty.
The 33-year-old’s sample, given to the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport in June of last year, tested positive for the drug. Clenbuterol is an asthma and fat-burning drug that also increases endurance.
In August, the 46-cap Springbok declared his innocence in a statement.
The South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport notified me earlier this month that a urine sample I had given them in June 2023 had tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol. This news was met with a great deal of shock and sadness, according to the statement.
“I have given my legal counsel instructions to help me track down the source of the forbidden substance, to test my B Sample, and to start looking into potential reasons why the test came out positive.
“I’ll use every effort to establish my innocence.
This is just one more setback in a very turbulent period of my life.
“I’ll get through this with the help of my friends and family.
“I am aware that some people will question my innocence, but I want to disprove your claims when the time comes.
“I’m grateful to those who stand with me.”
