A source stated that the club is thinking about taking additional action for the child. According to reports out of KwaZulu-Natal, Orlando Pirates midfielder Thabang Monare may face more consequences following the reported slap of a ballboy during the Buccaneers’ DStv Premiership match against Richards Bay FC on Saturday at King Zwelithini Stadium.
During the Buccaneers’ 0-0 draw with the Natal Rich Boyz, Monare was sent off for reportedly striking a ball boy and fighting with the referee during the final parts of the game while warming up.
The experienced midfielder was sent off during a heated argument between him and another Pirates player, Sphepelo Baloni, about time wastage. Referee Jelly Chavani had to step in to break up the fight, and eventually send Monare off.
He did not participate in the game, and the boy was attended to by a medical team. According to a source, the Natal Rich Boyz didn’t like what transpired with their ball-boy and there might be further action taken should there be no proper apology to the kid.
Uncalled for?
Considering the caliber of Monare as a player, what transpired was uncalled for. He has played the game for a very long time, thus it was inappropriate of him to see him treat that boy in that way.
The source stated, “He should know better; he is a leader and an experienced player.
The club is thinking about doing more for the child. They want a sincere apology from Monare for what he did on Saturday since he was not good at all.
There might be more action if he doesn’t do it. However, I’m curious to see if the Premier Soccer League (PSL) would take any more action as that behavior was just intolerable and put the league into disrepute.
