Following Scotland’s call-up, Sean Dyche must now be put on notice at Everton by Nathan Patterson.

Since Nathan Patterson has received yet another Scotland call despite having had unfairly few opportunities at Goodison Park, Everton manager Sean Dyche needs to take note.

Dyche prefers Mykolenko and Young at left-back and right-back, respectively, therefore the former Rangers defender has struggled to get starts in recent games. As a result, there have been many claims that Dyche no longer trusts the former Rangers defender.

Steve Clarke, the manager at Goodison Park, still has faith in the player’s potential to have an effect despite his lack of consistent playing time. However, Dyche, the previous Burnley manager, continues to start Ashley Young despite the player’s recent struggles.

His effort against the Hatters was the latest in a string of ineffective and careless outings in his new environment.

Young only played 78 minutes, according to SofaScore, and was duly substituted out for Patterson, who will now likely take his spot in the starting lineup moving forward.

The former Aston Villa full-back only won one of his duels during the game, mishandled the ball 11 times, made a costly error right before Luton Town’s opening goal, finished only one of his four crosses, and had 0% of his dribbles complete.

The full-back, who was born in Glasgow, unquestionably brings the Everton supporters’ favorite energy and aggressiveness to the field, something they have maybe always needed throughout the years.

Although the seasoned Young has shown to be a very reasonable and reliable presence for Dyche, recent performances indicate that he may not be the long-term answer.

The impending internationals will undoubtedly provide Dyche the time to pause and adjust his strategy in preparation for the return of the Premier League, and one of those adjustments must undoubtedly be giving Patterson a sustained position in the team given the fact that he is now an official international.

The former Rangers player deserves to start at Goodison Park over a past-his-prime free transfer who should really be content with a backup position despite the fact that he is still tremendously raw and far from being a polished product.

If anything, Patterson’s participation for Scotland in high-profile games should be enough to keep Dyche aware that he has a perfect right-back answer right under his nose. It is unclear whether Dyche will attempt to make urgent changes for this weekend’s game against Bournemouth.
