Live transfer news: Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen, Hearts, and Hibs all have an eye on new signings
Signing season is racing into view and we have you covered with all the latest news, rumours and potential done deals.
While the Tartan Army party in Georgia as they dream of topping their Euro 2024 qualifying group, transfer news is coming thick and fast. The January window will soon be upon us and there’s plenty of top stars weighing up their next move.
Rangers boss Philippe Clement will be able to start shaping his squad in a few weeks, with several key positions needing strengthened. He is likely to have a director of football in place to help in that regard, with an appointment potentially being made before December.
Lawrence Shankland is one who is repeatedly mentioned by pundits as a top target for the Belgian, but Hearts aren’t likely to even consider a January sale of their star man to a domestic rival – unless it’s for silly money – and Gers will probably have to offload one of their misfiring forwards first in any case. Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers and Danilo were all signed by Clement’s predecessor Michael Beale, with supporters yet to be fully convinced by their attributes.
Across the city, Celtic are said to be interested in Kanji Okunuki as the Hoops look to continue their Japanese strategy. The FC Nurnburg attacking midfielder was linked with Hearts in the summer, but chose a switch to the Bundesliga 2 from Polish outfit Gornik Zabrze instead. Now Sky Germany claim the Scottish Premiership champions have an interest.
Aberdeen have the Viaplay Cup final to look forward to, but Barry Robson’s side need to start climbing the league table soon. They’ve had to balance domestic football with a Europa Conference League campaign and it’s taken its toll so far. Chairman Dave Cormack backed Robson heavily in the summer with 13 new signings, but five of them have yet to start a competitive match. Expect a few outgoings and incomings when the window slams open. Talisman Bojan Miovski is expected to be in-demand.
Nick Montgomery is approaching his first Hibs opportunity to strengthen but it will be another period of change at Easter Road. One man going nowhere is Lennon Miller, who’s signed a new deal at Motherwell.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe will take over football operations when he purchases a 25 stake per cent stake in Manchester United and a clear out could be on the cards with Casemiro reportedly on the chopping block. CEO Richard Arnold has also departed after spending 16 years at the club.
