Raiders Sign Former Steelers TE Jesse James
PITTSBURGH — Jesse James, a former tight end for the Pittsburgh Steelers, has returned to the NFL and has joined the Las Vegas Raiders practice squad, the team announced.
James, 29, was the Steelers’ fifth-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft and played four seasons with Pittsburgh.
From 2015 to 202018, he caught 120 passes for 1,189 yards and nine touchdowns before agreeing to a four-year, $22.6 million contract with the Detroit Lions.
James spent just two seasons with the Lions before being released after the 2020 season. He spent a year with the Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns after his release. He is played 58 games for the zx, catching 37 passes for 333 yards and three touchdowns since leaving Pittsburgh.
James sustained a season-ending knee injury the previous year, but he seems healthy and prepared to reclaim his spot on an NFL roster. He’ll have the back half of the season to do so in Las Vegas.
