On social media, Monday is Davis’ birthday, and he announced his official retirement from the NFL.
“Today, on my 31st birthday, I reflect on my NFL career and feel grateful to be a part of a fraternity,” Davis wrote on social media. “I’ve made a lot of friends and memories because of this game. I’m appreciative of every NFL organization. That being stated, I’m going to retire.
In 87 career games, Davis—a 49ers fourth-round selection in 2015—caught 171 catches for 1,066 yards and four touchdowns while also running for 2,052 yards and 14 scores.
He had 1,015 yards from scrimmage and eight total touchdowns with the Panthers in 2020, which was his greatest season.
Additionally, Davis spent time with the Ravens, Falcons, Bears, and Seahawks.
In 2023, he was not on a squad.
Eagles Stay or Go 2024: What will happen with Haason Reddick?
Eagles to Stay or Leave 2024: What will happen with Haason Reddick’s situation?first broadcast on NBC Sports Philadelphia
In 2024, Reuben Frank and Dave Zangaro return to Stay or Go, attempting to determine the destiny of every player on the Eagles squad.
Quarterback, running back, receiver, tight end, interior offensive line, offensive tackle, specialists, and defensive tackle have already been covered.
Roob: No one has ever played for the Eagles for fifteen years. There has never been an Eagles player with 200 regular-season games.
The first person to do so has to be Brandon Graham. Not because B.G. is our favorite. Not because he should break every record for the longest franchise lifespan.
Nevertheless, he can still play. Graham played in just 23 snaps per game last season, but he was excellent in a role that was ideal for an edge rusher at his age of 35.
With four sacks—one during the playoff game—he raised his career total to 73, which is fourth highest in the history of the team behind Clyde Simmons, Trent Cole, and Reggie White. All I know is that the Eagles wouldn’t have collapsed if every player had given it their all the previous season.
Dave: It’s clear that this one is difficult. Although Graham will turn 36 this coming season, he has always stated that he hopes to play for the Eagles and the NFL for 15 years.
This ought to occur even though he is no longer an every-down player. In 2023, Graham had a modest role but was a reliable contributor.
The fact that he replaced Nolan Smith as the third player in the rotation was the bigger issue. However, Graham was one of the few individuals who showed up for the playoff game and played well in Year 14.
Although he is not yet a free agent, we know he wants to stay and will likely accept a hometown discount to play out his remaining years in this league.
Conclusion: Remains
Jackson Tarron
Roob: Jackson hasn’t really played since 2021, but he’s been around for a while. The Eagles need more depth at the edge position than late-round picks like Jackson and Patrick Johnson can provide.
Conclusion: Goes
Dave: After appearing in 21 games over the course of the previous two seasons, the former sixth-round selection from Coastal Carolina did not play in an Eagles game in 2023.
That is the typical course of events for late-round selections. Early in their lives, they are given a shot, but when the roster changes, those chances disappear. Jackson will have a chance to make the roster while in camp, but I don’t think it will happen.
Conclusion: Goes
Johnson, Patrick
Roob: Refer to Tarron Jackson up top.
Conclusion: Goes
Dave:I believe that Jackson and Johnson should not be grouped together. Johnson has appeared in 15 games over his three-year NFL career, whereas Jackson did not play in any games in 2023. The main distinction in this instance is Johnson’s exceptional performance on special teams.
Johnson actually played 299 special team snaps in 2023, trailing just Kelee Ringo (305) and Josh Jobe (323). Johnson has played the most special team snaps (868) of any player on the squad over the last three seasons.
Although Johnson still doesn’t have a lock on a roster berth, that gives him a lot better opportunity. Special teams were, after all, the only team that performed up to par with the previous season.
Conclusion: Remains
Terrell Lewis
Roob: Lewis split time last season between the Bears and Saints, but he recorded six sacks in three seasons as a backup with the Rams. Perhaps something is there. He has played about 1,000 snaps in his career and was once selected in the third round. However, if it hasn’t occurred for him in the previous four years, it most likely won’t now.
Conclusion: Goes
Dave: Lewis’ arrival at the camp excites me. In 2020, the Eagles signed him to a contract after the season, having selected him in the third round out of Alabama. Despite playing in thirty games and starting seven over his three NFL seasons with the Rams, he hasn’t really developed into a serious threat when rushing the passer.
Conclusion: Goes
Okwara Julian
Roob: Although playing fewer than 400 snaps, this 26-year-old edge rusher was good enough to pull up 5.0 sacks in 2021 after being selected in the third round a couple years prior.
That being said, there’s something there, and this is a classic Howie Roseman move—purchasing a once-productive player who is still young and might contribute with no cap risk.
Roseman is searching far and wide for pass-rush support, which is admirable, but the reality is that Okwara has only played in four sacks over the past two seasons and has little chance of making the 53. Although he’s a long shot, it makes sense to bring him in.
Conclusion: Goes
Dave:More than Lewis, Okwara intrigues me, and he has a good chance of making this squad. However, it’s really difficult to predict at this point because we don’t know what will happen with Haason Reddick or what will transpire during the draft. I predict that Okwara will be a real bubble guy who might be cut if the Eagles decide to select an edge rusher with their Day 2 choice.
Conclusion: Goes
Reddick Haason
Roob: I think we’ll finish this. Reddick will turn 30 in September, and Howie Roseman dislikes offering big contracts to players in their 30s, so it’s a precarious scenario.
And he will be even less likely to do so, given the circumstances surrounding James Bradberry. Additionally, Reddick did end the season with five straight games without a sack, which may indicate a regression.
He most definitely didn’t have the same season as in 2022. However, to what extent was that caused by problems with coaching and the way he was utilized? In the end, Reddick is an excellent edge rusher, and the Eagles require his services.
I anticipate that Roseman’s team and Reddick’s will come to some sort of agreement and close a deal.
Conclusion: Remains
Dave’s output speaks for itself, even if he will reach thirty early in the 2024 season. In the past four seasons, he has recorded double-digit sack totals twice while wearing an Eagles uniform. It’s difficult to discover productions like that.
This whole authorization to pursue a trade item is a means of assessing Reddick’s worth to the other NFL teams.
Reddick may be the finest defensive player for the Eagles, a team that is hoping to win a Super Bowl. Trading a guy like that, who can go after quarterbacks, isn’t worth it.
In the end, I believe Reddick and the Eagles managed to extend his stay in Philadelphia by a few seasons. What about a $45 million, two-year contract? Reddick crosses the $20 million threshold as a result, but the market is not reset. That appears reasonable.
Conclusion: Remains
Smith Nolan
Roob: The Eagles need a lot more from their 2023 first-round pick than they did from last year, but he will be there. Although it’s too soon to write Smith out, there are several reasons for concern, including his limited playing time, poor performance when he did play, and his nagging shoulder ailment.
Vic Fangio’s coaching should help Smith, who turned 23 last month. But there’s no denying that this year is significant for him.
Conclusion: Remains
Dave: Smith got a little lost this season because Jaleen Carter received so much attention. However, there’s no denying that the other rookie from Georgia had a forgettable first campaign. There was a lot of hype surrounding Smith following a very impressive training camp, but he only played 188 defensive snaps the entire season and had little effect.
The Eagles will need more from Smith in the future, especially in a position where his future is highly uncertain, but it is far too soon to draw any broad conclusions about a player’s career after just one season.
Conclusion: Remains
Josh Perspiring
Roob: Throughout the second half of the season, the team as a whole declined, but Sweat’s decline was the most noticeable. He had 25 sacks in his previous 37 games going into the first Dallas game, solidifying his status as one of the NFC’s most potent edge rushers.
Then eight games in a row without a bag. It is astounding that Sweat, who is entering his seventh season, is still only 26 years old. However, just like Reddick, he will be a free agent at the end of this season.
What strategy should Roseman use in that negotiation? Is Sweat the same man who got 11 sacks in 2022 and made the Pro Bowl in 2021? Or the man who didn’t have a sack for half the season? Because there was so much chaos in the franchise during the second half of the previous season, I think it’s nearly impossible to judge anyone. If, by 2024, Sweat doesn’t resurrect itself, I’ll be shocked.
Conclusion: Remains
Dave:In addition to Reddick’s future, Sweat’s future is also a legitimate concern. because the three-year deal he signed for the 2021 season is about to expire.
Before the 2024 season officially begins, he will be 27 years old, but the Eagles may want to sign him once again, particularly if they are unable to work things out with Reddick. Last season, Sweat had a great start to the season but really let it go in the second half.
Though it’s important to note that even though Sweat’s sack totals fell, he still had the same number of QB hits in 2023 as he did in his 11-sack campaign the previous year.
The concerning aspect of this is that Sweat appeared to struggle with handling a career-high 828 snaps the previous season, raising questions about how much more he will be able to take. In any case, this season, expect him to return.
