Eric Stokes, the Packers’ cornerback, has been placed on injured reserve.
“Well, one hundred and ten percent. When something is taken away from you, you see how important practice is, how important walkthroughs are, and how minor things you took for granted are, and you realise, “Man, I can’t wait to come back,” stated Stokes.
“On my first day of Indy, I couldn’t wait to hang out with Sul, Key, and everyone else just to laugh and joke about; it’s the kind of tiny things you take for granted every day and realise you genuinely miss doing all those little things.” I adore it even more now that it’s done, 110 percent.”
Football, it turns out, is a harsh sport that made an unpleasant appearance on Sunday afternoon.
The week before the Packers’ game against the Denver Broncos, Stokes was made available to play. It was his first game following a devastating injury that prevented him from playing in the second half of 2022 and the initial part of 2023.
He was not able to play defence after his comeback.
With a hamstring injury, Stokes was sent to special team duties and left with a limp.
The injury he suffered on Sunday is not the same as the one that troubled him while he was trying to recover from his first ailment during training camp.
It was a right hamstring injury sustained during training camp.
During his news conference on Wednesday, Matt LaFleur informed the Green Bay reporters that his new injury—his left hamstring—will force him to go on injured reserve.
Although LaFleur stated that the team thought Stokes would return this year, this is a sad result for Stokes.
After an impressive rookie campaign that left the Packers fantasising of having three elite corners in their defensive backfield, Stokes was coming off a dismal second season.
There are now more questions than answers for Stokes and the Packers.
This information was released on the same day that the Packers made three secondary changes in an attempt to strengthen their increasingly depleted cornerback room.
Joe Barry remarked last week that it was a champagne problem to add Stokes to a secondary that already included Rasul Douglas, Jaire Alexander, and Keisean Nixon.
In the span of a single glance, they have gone from champagne difficulties to a beer budget.
At least the next four games will be without Stokes. So will Darnell Savage.
His status was changed to injured reserve, as reported by Rob Demovsky of ESPN.
Due to a bad back, Jaire Alexander has already missed three games this season. It is unknown what condition he will have from week to week.
There aren’t many men left, but the coaches and players will keep talking about who the next man up is.
Stokes hoped he would be among them. Rather, he’s back on the shelf, biding his time until he gets another chance.
