Apparently, Kyle McCord is leaving the Big Ten and moving to Syracuse.
Orange is what Kyle McCord is exchanging his scarlet for.
The former quarterback for Ohio State, according to Brent Axe of Syracuse.com, will pledge to Syracuse through the transfer portal. He could declare himself officially as early as Sunday.
Under Fran Brown, the Orange, who finished 6–6 in 2023, are rebuilding. It’s a major victory for the new coach to have signed McCord, a five-star recruit and a Top 25 talent in the 2021 signing class.
Shortly after McCord placed his name in the transfer portal on December 4, Brown got in touch with him. Early last week, McCord made a trip to Nebraska as well. However, it was widely believed shortly after his departure that he would not commit to coaching Matt Rhule and the Cornhuskers.
McCord, who is originally from Philadelphia, had an offer from the Orange right out of high school. In the early 1990s, Derek, his father, was a quarterback at Rutgers.
McCord was the full-time starter for the Buckeyes for just one season. He completed 3,170 yards of passing with 24 touchdowns and 6 interceptions in 2023. He guided Ohio State to an 11-0 lead, but in the regular-season finale, the Buckeyes fell to archrival Michigan, 30–24.
The 21-year-old played in five games in 2021 and seven in 2022 while serving as CJ Stroud’s backup during his first two seasons.
Garrett Schrader, the quarterback for Syracuse right now, finished his eligibility this season. Despite six interceptions, he had 13 touchdowns versus just 7.9 yards per attempt.
McCord is still eligible for one more year. And he’ll kick it off against Ohio on August 31, 2024, when Syracuse starts the season.
