Will Kacmarek, a tight end for the former Ohio Bobcats, joins the Ohio State Buckeyes
The sophomore from the Bobcats is the first transfer-portal addition to commit to the Buckeyes this offseason, which will give depth to a position that is set to lose a vital player.
The Ohio State Buckeyes have added their first player through the transfer portal this summer.
Will Kacmarek, a former tight end with the Ohio Bobcats, declared on Tuesday that he will play for the Buckeyes starting in 2024.
Kacmarek, a sophomore, has spent his whole collegiate career with the Bobcats. at his two seasons at Athens, Ohio, the product of St. Louis, Missouri, has hauled in 42 receptions for two touchdowns and slightly over 500 yards.
“Really looking forward to this new chance!” stated Kacmarek on social media. “Thank you for assisting me in achieving this position, friends, family, and coaches!”
The timing of Kacmarek’s recruitment to the Buckeyes could not be more ideal. The bulk of Ohio State’s experience at the tight end position has been lost or is soon to be lost, thus Kacmarek immediately becomes someone the younger players in the room can look up to.
In the 2023 Goodyear Cotton Bowl, senior tight end Cade Stover played his final game for the Buckeyes against the Missouri Tigers. Meanwhile, fellow senior Joe Royer made an announcement in early December about his entry into the transfer portal. Together with the newcomers from early signing day, Kacmarek will be in the tight-end room with senior Gee Scott Jr. and redshirt freshman Jelani Thurman for the Buckeyes.
Kacmarek is a good choice as a blocking or pass-catching tight end because of his 6-foot-6 height and 256 pounds. Given that Kacmarek’s measurements are only two inches and five pounds different from Stover’s, it is reasonable to infer that he will be used similarly to his draft-bound predecessor.
