Good news: The New Ohio State OC has just been announced as the head coach of…

OC Bill O’Brien of New Ohio State will probably take over as head coach at Boston College.

The careers of Ohio State’s quarterback coach and offensive coordinator may end before they ever start. The Boston Herald reports that O’Brien’s contract to become the Eagles’ head coach at Boston College is almost complete.

He was going to take over for former Ohio State defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, who resigned to pursue a similar role with the Green Bay Packers.

O’Brien was born in Boston. Jack, his son, was diagnosed with lissencephaly, a rare brain disorder, and is being treated in the Boston region.

In an attempt to recruit an experienced coach to help the Ohio State offense, which struggled mightily the previous season, head coach Ryan Day went after O’Brien, the offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots the previous season.

O’Brien started work on January 18. O’Brien was at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center on Monday, according to a source. O’Brien took over as Penn State’s head coach in 2012 and 2013, following legendary coach Joe Paterno’s resignation due to the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal.

In his first season, O’Brien was successful with fifth-year senior quarterback Matt McGloin, and in his second season, he was successful with rookie quarterback Christian Hackenberg.

In 2014, O’Brien departed to take over as head coach of the Houston Texans. O’Brien spent two seasons as Alabama’s offensive coordinator following his firing by the Texans in 2020.
