Opinion: Has Awoniyi Redeems Himself for the Forest?

Awoniyi Comes Good Again for Forest

With Nottingham Forest, forward Taiwo Awoniyi made his Premier League comeback and was instrumental in their 1-1 draw with Burnley on Monday night at the City Ground.

The Striker registered an assist, assisting Callum Hudson-Odoi, a former Chelsea player, on his pivotal goal that tied the game for Forest after Zeki Amdouni had given Burnley the lead.

Awoniyi has now contributed to goals in nine straight Premier League games dating back to his brace against Southampton on matchday 35 of the 2022–2023 season with the assist against Burnley.

The fact that the former Liverpool forward has already eclipsed his assist total from the previous season after only five games is extremely notable.

Ola Aina, another of his countrymen, played for Nottingham Forest with Awoniyi.

Aina, who initially played left back, switched to right back after Gonzalo Montiel, who had been playing left back, was replaced by Nuno Tavares, a former defender for Arsenal.

Ola Aina played for the complete 90 minutes while Awoniyi was replaced by Chris Wood two minutes before the game’s conclusion.
