Steve Cooper raves about Nottingham Forest star Matt Turner.
Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matt Turner has been praised by head coach Steve Cooper. The Reds face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
Forest prised Turner away from Arsenal during the summer transfer window. He spent a single season with the Gunners but made just seven appearances, all of which came in cup competitions.
He was desperate to play regular first-team football at the age of 29. The player will seek to maintain his status as the first stopper for the USA national team.
Cooper is really pleased with his summertime acquisition. He has been gushing about the player from the Premier League team that finished second last season, who cost the club £10 million.
“Everyone knew at the end of last season that we needed to add to the goalkeeping part of the squad,” Cooper told BBC Sport. I believe we are currently in a solid position. A really competitive region of the squad exists there right now.
Matt has settled in and really bought into the values of the club. He is really good to work with and I am really happy with him.
I don’t want to say too much because you want your goalkeeper to play well the next game, but let’s hope he can do that.
Cooper hails Forest star Turner
The goalkeeper undoubtedly has more to offer. However, he has largely been faultless thus far, and the Reds appear to have struck gold by signing the American.
Despite not having played much football in England, he now obviously has a point to make since relocating to Forest. His efforts thus far have been excellent, and on Monday night he once more made two excellent saves.
Cooper obviously has a lot of respect for the goalkeeper. Turner will be aware that Odysseas Vlachodimos has been replaced by an experienced keeper now that he has been signed by Benfica.
