The new recruit for Nottingham Forest explains why he had to quit his team.

The American goalkeeper for the national team joined Nottingham Forest last month in a transfer that may be worth up to £10 million after only one season in north London.

Turner made just seven overall appearances for Arsenal last season, but has started all four of the club’s Premier League games this year.

Prior to two USMNT friendly on Monday, Turner told media that he realized his time at Arsenal was over near the end of his rookie season.

“Toward the end of the season, I felt like there were games I could have played that I wasn’t even getting a sniff of,” Turner explained. “I was doing extremely well in training. I felt like I was doing everything I could to get minutes on the squad, but it simply wasn’t working out.

“I knew that if I had waited another year, it would have been much more difficult for me to make a lateral move within the Premier League.” So I realized at that point that time was of the importance. If I had gone another season without playing, I would have had to take a step back, and once you’re out, it’s difficult to get back into it, especially when you’re not English.”

Turner also praised Aaron Ramsdale, the current Arsenal goalkeeper who made it difficult for him to obtain more playing time last season.

“Credit really goes to Aaron because he brought it every single day,” Turner added. “And when doors were cracked open, he slammed them shut.” I believe he is a really talented goalkeeper, and I believe we constantly pushed one other to improve.
