For Nottingham Forest, Taiwo Awoniyi has continued his stellar play from last year, scoring three goals and dishing out one assist in as many games.

According to Soccernet.ng, Nigerian Taiwo Awoniyi’s goals in the Premier League matches against Arsenal and Manchester United have earned him a nomination for his club Nottingham Forest’s Goal of the Month award for August 2023.

The 26-year-old scored Forest’s lone goal in their 2-1 loss to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the first week of the Premier League season to open his account for the year.

Following some outstanding work from Anthony Elanga in the build-up, Awoniyi scored the goal for Forest, but the Tricky Trees’ goal was only a consolation.

He scored his second of the season a week later to open the scoring for Forest in a 3-2 defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The former Union Berlin striker broke forward following a quick counterattack before slotting past Andre Onana to net for a seventh consecutive Premier League game – a club record.

Together with Chris Wood’s outstanding header against Sheffield United, Charlotte Greengrass’s goal against Stourbridge, and Detief Esepa-Osong’s goal against Arsenal U-21, both goals are now contenders for Forest’s Goal of the Month award.

With three goals and one assist in as many games for the former European champions, the Nigerian international striker has had a great start to the season. For Forest to maintain their top-flight position for another season, he must continue in this vein.

He has been selected for the Super Eagles team to play Sao Tome and Principe in a dead rubber 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
