Take a look at the player. Newcastle is awaiting a signal in order to complete a transaction that would replace a starting player.

Transfer insider Ben Jacobs feels there’s a “possibility” that Kieran Tierney will be available this summer, but they won’t move “until the player decides” on his future.

Interest from the Magpies in Tierney has been ongoing for some time. At the back end of last season, Eddie Howe’s side already seemed to be preparing their move for the Arsenal full-back.

That they landed on him is likely due to his obvious skill level, coupled with the fact he’s been pushed down the pecking order at Arsenal thanks to last summer’s arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Tierney started just six league games last season, and Newcastle will have identified the potential that he could angle for a move away because of that.

While there’s been no breakthrough yet, Jacobs suggests he’s still very much in the thoughts of the Magpies, and that his lacking game-time could force an exit decision soon.

“Kieran Tierney is one to watch as far as left-backs are concerned at Newcastle. There’s been a long-standing interest,” he told GIVEMESPORT.

“Arsenal have to understand whether Tierney is happy with his diminished game-time and prepared to stay at the club or, alternatively, would like to go somewhere where he might be a starting left-back.”

Jacobs cites the fact Tierney is yet to make that decision as the reason Newcastle haven’t moved for him yet, but expects that to happen if he does.

“Until the player decides, Newcastle won’t move in any kind of concrete sense. But there’s also a possibility that Tierney is available in the market,” Jacobs said.

It remains to be seen how long they’ll wait for that decision to be made, though. Indeed, Jacobs suggests they’re likely to move for a left-sided defender whether or not that is Tierney.

“I would expect Newcastle to move for a left-back because there’s a starting spot potentially available even though Dan Burn is liked and popular at the football club,” Jacobs added.
