Romano has just backed up claim that Newcastle fan favourite is returning to the Premier League

Former Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul is reportedly on his way back to the Premier League.

The Dutchman spent last season playing in the Championship with Norwich City alongside Newcastle midfielder Isaac Hayden, but is now braced for a return to the top flight.

That is because Luton Town are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Krul from the Canaries.

That means that another St James’ Park return will soon be on the cards for the 35-year-old who made almost 200 appearances for Newcastle United.

Former Newcastle star set to sign for Luton Town

It has been reported by Chris Reeve of BBC Norfolk that Krul has agreed to leave Norwich City and sign for Premier League new boys Luton Town.

This story has been backed up by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who states that the goalkeeper is closing in on the move, with the clubs and player having an agreement in place.

He is now going to have a medical with Luton before finally putting pen to paper on a deal that will end his five year association with Norwich.

It will be great to see Krul once again

Krul really rebuilt his career at Carrow Road, joining in 2018 after injury blighted his Newcastle tenure. He was the main man at St James’ Park until a horrific knee injury. By the time he returned, Rafa Benitez had no role for him on Tyneside.

The Dutch stopper had a couple of loans before spending a year on the Brighton bench, then really re-found his form at Norwich.

He always a received a great welcome from the Toon Army whenever he returned to St James’ Park, and that looks like that will now be happening in early 2024. Newcastle play Luton at home on February 3rd.

The reverse fixture is scheduled to take place on December 23rd, which will be Newcastle fans’ first chance to meet Krul once again since Eddie Howe’s side beat Norwich 3-0 at Carrow Road in April 2022.

It is great to see Krul is set to return to the Premier League, and he will likely be a very busy man in between the Luton sticks if the Hatters’ first game is anything to go by!
