Newcastle will benefit from a £60 million price decrease.

Patience has been a virtue for Newcastle United.

When Lille refused to sell Sven Botman in January 2022, the club simply waited to sign him months later and landed themselves quite the talent.

Everton, meanwhile, stood firm over Anthony Gordon last summer before Newcastle eventually landed him in January.

Indeed, little about the club’s recruitment during the PIF era has been rushed. They have planned coherently and the rewards are rather obvious.

While that waiting might not feed the insatiable hunger for transfers the summer and January windows cause, it is clearly working.

According to reports from the Daily Mail, it could now save Newcastle millions.

Newcastle set to make a £25m offer to sign Harvey Barnes
They claim the club are set to launch a £25m offer to sign Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes.

The 25-year-old has been strongly linked with a move in recent days and the Mail’s report should be of particular interest.

It is claimed that Leicester had initially valued Barnes at £60m but the Magpies are now confident of securing a deal for considerably cheaper.

Eddie Howe is said to want “reliable” squad players ahead of increased schedule next season and reportedly sees Barnes as exactly that.

£25m for Barnes would be excellent business

While Leicester were relegated last season, Barnes still outscored all but one Newcastle player.

Only Callum Wilson bagged more times (18 to 13), underlining just how much more end product Barnes has than Howe’s current options out wide. Firepower, at times, was a problem even despite some of big scorelines last time out.

With plenty of Premier League experience already and young enough to grow, £25m looks a very good price if possible.

Rather than rushing, Newcastle have waited and now look in a good position to chip away at that initial £60m valuation.
