Why Kylian Mbappe declined a player request for a jersey exchange following Newcastle’s loss to PSG

Sean Longstaff, a recent academy product, helped Newcastle defeat Paris Saint-Germain at St. James’ Park, but he was not allowed to wear Kylian Mbappe’s jersey.

Sean Longstaff will not be receiving Kylian Mbappe’s game-used jersey from Newcastle’s victory over Paris Saint-Germain because teammate Kieran Trippier beat the goal scorer to it.

On a historic night for the Magpies, Longstaff scored as French champions PSG were defeated 4-1 at St. James’ Park. Dan Burn, Fabian Schar, Miguel Almiron, and others all scored goals, with Lucas Hernandez providing the visitors’ consolation.

Midfielder Longstaff claimed during the game that he had requested Mbappe’s shirt and was still hoping. Although Trippier had previously played down speculations that he would do so, photographs taken after the game showed that he had really acquired the treasured asset.

Dan Burn and Sean Longstaff weren’t Newcastle’s only hometown heroes on Glory Night.

After the victory, Longstaff spoke to TNT Sports and said, I was blocking him [Mbappe] from a goal-kick so I tried to get it for my little brother. Therefore, I’m hoping I still receive it.

However, Trippier’s kid was photographed sporting a PSG jersey following the game. The fact that Mbappe’s name and number were on the shirt suggested that, despite his prior remarks, the England international had managed to negotiate a switch for the Mbappe-obsessed child.

Before the game, Trippier joked, I was having a little banter with my son on Monday, and he said he wanted to walk out with Mbappe instead of me.I wasn’t at all pleased with it!

He is constantly watching his YouTube videos because he is enamored with him, the right-back continued. I warned him, Don’t look at me in the tunnel if you get to go with Mbappe! Everyone will want his clothing, that is reasonable, but I’m not thinking about it since I want the three points instead.

Newcastle leads their Champions League group after two games thanks to their victory over PSG. After defeating Borussia Dortmund in their opening match in Paris, PSG is still in second place, AC Milan in third after two scoreless ties, and Dortmund is still in last place.

think we knew it was going to be special with the atmosphere, but for me and Burny [Dan Burn] to score on a night like tonight is pretty surreal, continued Longstaff. I truly don’t know what to say.

To be honest, I believe there are those of us who believed we were likely out the door three years ago, and it wasn’t a wonderful place to be. I am overjoyed and really pleased to be from Newcastle.

In a statement to CBS Sports, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe lauded the home fans, saying, In every team talk I mention the crowd because they are so powerful. We are missing a trick if we don’t exploit the fans and [instead] play a style of football where they aren’t going to be engaged in the game.

We strive to harness their enthusiasm to assist the players in carrying out what we desire. I’m thrilled for the team and the fans because of what they did for us today.
