Eddie Howe says Newcastle are unlikely to strengthen in one area this summer.

Eddie Howe has admitted to the media that he is content with the options available to him in one key position at Newcastle United and isn’t looking to add any players for that area this summer.

Eddie Howe was questioned by the collected media in the United States ahead of Newcastle’s first Premier League Summer Series match against Aston Villa at midnight tonight (UK time) regarding the transfer market, his incomings, outgoings, desires and requirements.

He was questioned about one position for which Howe said he had ample coverage.

Howe knows where Newcastle need to strengthen and where they don’t

While he didn’t say he wouldn’t strengthen if he could, Howe did state he is satisfied with his forward options and won’t be seeking to acquire any players in that position owing to budget limitations.

“I think when you look at our striking options, we’ve obviously got two top, top players possibly competing for one position depending on what system we play,” Howe told reporters (via NUFC TV).

“Then behind that we’ve also got Anthony Gordon who can play central and he’s done it very well. So with the price of front players being so high I don’t think that’s an area, with the budget that we have, that we can go into this summer.”

Eddie Howe wants two top players for every position at Newcastle

Howe has always said he wants two top players for every position and as long as he’s playing one up top he’s definitely got that in Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak with Anthony Gordon as another back-up. We have our bases covered.

Obviously, bringing in another attacker would allow Howe to experiment and play Wilson and Isak together more frequently, but there are other positions that deserve Howe’s attention and the PIF’s money more than strikers.

Goals should not be an issue for Howe’s men next season, with Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes contributing to Newcastle’s inventiveness and Gordon returning from the Under 21 Euros a transformed man.
