The Hoops are reportedly interested in the Scotland star
The Hoops are reportedly interested in the Newcastle winger with Brendan Rodgers considering a swoop to bring the Aberdeen academy product back to Scotland after he was frozen out at St James’ Park. The 29-year-old has been frozen out and hasn’t been handed a squad number for this season after not even having any involvement in any pre-season games.
It all comes after a bust-up with Howe earlier this year and it was made clear Fraser was free to move on despite having a contract until the summer of 2025. Celts are after a marquee signing on the wing to replace Jota and the Scotland star is said to be high on their list, although they’ve also been linked with Wolves’ Daniel Podence.
It has even been suggested that Parkhead chiefs had made contact with Newcastle as the looked to take the frozen-out star off their hands.
But Howe, who was himself close to joining Celtic as manager before performing a sensational U-turn and paving the way for Ange Postecoglou to take over, has now appeared to claim that some reports have been premature.
Asked about an approach for Fraser at his press conference today, he replied: “Not that I know of.”
Celtic this week signed centre-back Gustaf Lagerbielke as their sixth addition and now want more options on the wing.
As for Newcastle, they appear to have moved on from interest in Kieran Tierney with a deal for Chelsea left-back Lewis Hall close.
