Another Set Back: Newcastle star and play maker out for rest of year with ‘very unusual injury’

Newcastle United fear that Harvey Barnes will not play again this year, talkSPORT understands.

The winger was forced off early on with a foot injury during the the sensational 8-0 victory over Sheffield United on Sunday.

It doesn’t look too good, Eddie Howe stated immediately following the game. I believe he has a toe issue. When he started to move, he felt something in his toe.

Although we don’t yet know what the ailment is, early indications point to it being there.

Barnes’ injury has now been evaluated, and Howe said on Tuesday that Newcastle’s summer acquisition will be out for months.

Howe opined: I believe there is a foot injury just below the toe. It seems like quite a serious injury to me.

After scanning it, we are now awaiting a specialist’s advice on what to do next and whether surgery is necessary or not.

It wasn’t a tackle, in my opinion; rather, it was merely pushing off to run.

I won’t get too technical because I’m not prepared to speak medically about it, but it’s a really rare injury.

The winger joined St James’ Park from Leicester City for a cost of £39 million.
