Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are reportedly among the clubs interested in signing Everton’s Ben Godfrey.

This is in line with a recent 90min report, which states that both Premier League teams are keeping an eye on the defender’s circumstances at Goodison Park in advance of the January transfer window.

Slipping down Sean Dyche’s pecking order, Godfrey, 25, has played just one minute of competitive league football this season. Because of this, the 25-year-old is now leading a contender to depart Merseyside in January, with just two years remaining on his contract and Everton in need of some transfer funds.

Eddie Howe is thought to be an admirer and would probably welcome a January move, especially considering Godfrey would be a relatively cheap signing.

Spurs are also in the running after Mickey Van de Ven severely injured his hamstring against Chelsea on Monday, causing Ange Postecoglou to have a mini-crisis at the back.

The cost to remove the English defender from Everton is still unknown, but considering that Transfermarkt values him at a reasonable £13 million, it is reasonable to say Everton’s number 22 could be one of the smartest acquisitions of the winter.
