Daniel Jones and Four More Are Ruled Out by the Giants Before the Bills Game
The injury situation for this week is the worst it has been.
Players that featured on the team’s injury report this week will make up the majority of the New York Giants inactive report, as expected.
Quarterback Daniel Jones (neck), left tackle Andrew Thomas (hamstring), centre John Michael Schmitz (shoulder), tackle Matt Peart (shoulder), and outside linebacker Azeez Ojulari (ankle) have all been confirmed by head coach Brian Daboll.
On the team’s injury report released on Thursday, the five players were listed. This week, none of them have been able to practise.
After being added to the report on Thursday due to a sickness, punter Jamie Gillan is expected to be OK. Running back Gary Brightwell (ankle), who was restricted on Wednesday, is another player who may miss the game on Sunday.
Ten players for the Giants were designated as restricted, including tight end Darren Waller (groyne), right guard Marcus McKethan (knee), running back Saquon Barkley (ankle), and cornerback Deonte Banks (ankle).
Right tackle Evan Neal (ankle) and running back Saquo Barkley (ankle) did not have an injury status disclosed by Daboll. Barkley was marked as dubious last week, so it’s likely that he’ll be labelled as such this time around. Neal’s current situation is unknown.
In order to make sure they can fit all the roster movements they would need to make in order to play the game, Daboll also stated that the team probably has to place players on injured reserve. At least two offensive linemen from the practice squad are anticipated to be promoted by the Giants; in addition, they could need to add linebacker Oshane Ximines and quarterback Tommy DeVito.
The following players are designated by the Giants as doubtful on Sunday.
Ankle of RB Saquon Barkley
RB Ankle, Gary Brightwell
DL Knee OL by D.J. Davidson Lemieux, Shane – Groyne LB Ankle by Micah McFadden
OL Ankle, Evan Neal
TE Waller, Darren – Groyne
The expectation is that Barkley and Brightwell can both be released, or else the Gints’ running back corps will be quite weak.
