Which Ohio State recruits would the Buckeyes attempt to lose? Breakfast at Buckeye

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Just past weekend, Ohio State hosted its second-to-last major recruiting event of the year, drawing hundreds of prospects to Ohio Stadium in anticipation of the evening game versus Michigan State.

While Ohio State has had a few more intriguing names available recently—athletes who are now committed to other programs—the list of committed players and uncommitted prospects is noteworthy.

Ranked No. 859 in the 247Sports Composite rankings as a three-star player, he would be the four offensive lineman in the class (joining Ian Moore and Deontae and Devontae Armstrong). The Buckeyes are certainly in the mix for a flip.

A player who could be on the way to a flip is defensive lineman Amaris Williams — who 247Sports just put in a Crystal Ball to flip to Ohio State from Florida.

Adding Williams, the No. 100 player in the nation, would give the Buckeyes two five-star defensive linemen (Justin Scott and Eddrick Houston), with a four-star player in Williams right behind them. It would certainly be the kind of defensive recruiting, paired with Ohio State’s cornerback recruiting, that fans hav been longing for.

A third candidate for a flip would be wide receiver Chance Robinson, who is ranked No. 155 in the nation and is currently committed to Miami. He’s been on campus a handful of times this year, and a decision about his future appears to be getting closer. Robinson would be the fourth wide receiver in the class, behind Jeremiah Smith, Mylan Graham (both five-stars) and four-star Jeremiah McClellan.

An Ohio Stadium Winter Class may take place there in the future, according to a TSN Canada story.

In a Tuesday interview with Gino Reda and Pierre LeBrun, NHL insider Darren Dreger provided some details about the upcoming stages of planning.

Dreger stated, “The NHL is always planning the bigger events, and the Winter Classic is one of their marquee events,” however he wasn’t positive if it was for the Winter Classic in 2025. “I am aware that while league representatives were at Ohio State over the weekend, they were evaluating Ohio Stadium’s site. With a capacity for more than 102,000 people, it is among the fourth largest venues in the US. Therefore, I have no doubt that the Columbus Blue Jackets are eager for this to become official. As of right now, it’s only the beginning.

The NHL Winter Classic, which takes place on or around New Year’s Day every year, is something the Blue Jackets have never participated in. The team from that city typically plays the game at an NFL or MLB stadium.

Ohio Stadium would be the third college football stadium to host a major event on the NHL schedule. The 2014 Winter Classic between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings was held at “The Big House” in Ann Arbor. In 2019, the Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks played at Notre Dame Stadium.

NHL Stadium Series games have been held at NC State, Air Force, Navy, and Minnesota. These are a different set of games from the Winter Classic.

Since the league usually likes the Winter Classic to be a rivalry game, the Blue Jackets may host the Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings, or Washington Capitals—all teams who are quite near to Columbus and have a rivalry with the Blue Jackets.
