After the Dane scored twice against Galatasaray on Tuesday night, Paul Scholes thinks Rasmus Hojlund, a recent signing for Manchester United, has a little bit of Ruud Van Nistelrooy in him.
The 20-year-old scored twice in Man Utd’s humiliating 3-2 loss to Galatasaray in the second round of group stage matches after moving from Atalanta to Manchester Utd this summer in a deal worth €75 million.
Hojlund’s first goal was a precise header from six yards out after a Marcus Rashford cross, and his second came after he drove from the halfway line and lifted a lovely chip over Fernando Muslera’s outstretched arms.
His two goals, which followed one against Bayern Munich two weeks prior, made Man Utd legend Scholes think of Ruud Van Nistelrooy, a former teammate.
Along with Rio Ferdinand, Scholes served as a TNT Sports analyst for the match and discussed Hojlund following it.
You usually feel incredibly unhappy when United loses a crucial game like this, one they had to win, but I saw enough in the team to get excited,” Scholes remarked.
Particularly Hojlund, who took both of his goals superbly. I adored his second goal to the hilt. He gave the center-half no opportunity, displayed a polished set of heels, and maintained his calm to complete the play. Another of his goals was also rejected. I believed: ‘Wow, there’s a bit of Van Nistelrooy in there’, and it really excited me.”
Mason Mount performed admirably, but Scholes continued, “He just needs a goal, he’s desperate for a goal.”
Even though Sofyan Amrabat, who is not a left-back, scores the third goal, it was clearly open. It was so soft and weak from Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane, and we all know what the goalkeeper did as well.
In the end, Erik ten Hag’s team suffered their sixth loss in just 10 games this year and their second straight Champions League defeat, dropping them to the bottom of A with no points.
