Richard Keys slates two Manchester United players and calls one an ’embarrassment’
United kick off their new season under Erik ten Hag with a home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The hope will be that United, who have signed three players this summer, may well be ready for a title challenge.
However, Keys has given his thoughts on United’s chances ahead of the new season with the Red Devils hoping for a title challenge for the first time in a decade.
If United are to win the title this season they will need to rely on the front three for the majority of the goals this season, but it seems Keys is unconvinced by United’s new look-forward line.
‘An embarrassment last season’
Keys has spoken about Antony’s influence on United last season and it doesn’t seem the presenter is keen on the Brazilian.
“Antony was an embarrassment last season,” Keys wrote on his blog. “If ever there was a ‘one-trick’ pony it’s him. Step over, step inside, curl it.”
The Brazilian forward scored four goals and provided two assists in the Premier League but also scored two beautiful goals against Real Betis and Barcelona in the Europa League.
‘His behaviour can be tiresome’
It also seems Keys is not a big fan of Bruno Fernandes’ ‘antics’ as the Portuguese midfielder has been rewarded with the captaincy following his superb three years at the club since his January move to the club from Sporting Lisbon.
“Fernandes has got to take the responsibility of captaining a great club far more seriously,” Keys wrote. “His behaviour can be tiresome.
“(He’s) constantly falling over when he’s been sneezed on, hoping to win decisions is cheating. Proper United captains – Bruce, Keane, Neville, and similar – should perhaps have a word.”
Keys’ verdict on Fernandes couldn’t be any further from the truth with the Portuguese scoring 64 goals and providing 54 assists since his move to 2020.
Fernandes is also seemingly an encouraging captain, he put a nice social media post dedicated to Nathan Bishop, who completed his move to Sunderland. The Portuguese is a popular captain amongst the fans, too. It comes as Fernandes was superb against RC Lens in the pre-season win at Old Trafford on Saturday and will need to be exemplary throughout the season if United are to challenge for the big honours.
