Raphael Varane has already told new signing Andre Onana what to expect when walking out at Old Trafford for the first time.

Onana is expected to get his first taste of Old Trafford when Manchester United face French side RC Lens on Saturday. Varane is also expected to be part of a strong side, facing the team he began his career with back in 2002.

Following his £47million move from Inter Milan last month, Onana featured twice for Erik ten Hag’s side in the United States in defeats to Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. But while the support in both Houston and Las Vegas was fervent, Varane has told his new teammate that something ‘very special’ awaits.

“I spoke with Andre as well to tell him it will be very special to play in that place,” Varane told MUTV. “So he’s ready and I hope every signing is ready for that feeling.

“I think we worked a lot [over the summer] and we are ready. It’s the next step to be ready for the start of the season.”

Having not played for France in June due to his international retirement, Varane has featured in every pre-season friendly from Oslo to Las Vegas. But the 30-year-old is excited to return home and get to grips with the Old Trafford atmosphere ahead of the new campaign.

“It’s good to prepare for the season,” Varane added. “We want to be as strong as last season at home, so it’s good for us to start playing at Old Trafford this season, even if it is a friendly game. I’m sure the atmosphere will be good and we’ll create a good energy around the team.”
