Manchester United have reportedly been offered the chance to speak to Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg over a potential move.
Hojbjerg, who joined Spurs from Southampton in 2020, has been linked with a move away from North London throughout the summer transfer window.
Atletico Madrid were in pole position to secure his signature after their £30m bid was accepted by Spurs, but the transfer failed to materialise due to a failure to agree personal terms.
Hojbjerg has also turned down the chance to become the latest Premier League player to complete a move to Saudi Arabia despite being presented with a lucrative salary package believed to be worth £45m.
Although he has failed to find a new club, Hojbjerg could still leave Spurs before the transfer window closes, especially as the Danish midfielder has fallen down the pecking order under new manager Ange Postecoglou.
The former Celtic boss has utilised a midfield pairing of Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr for the opening three games, which has restricted Hojbjerg to just two substitute appearances.
According to The Telegraph, Man United are weighing up whether to make a surprise move for Hojbjerg before Friday’s transfer deadline.
The report claims that the 20-time English champions have been presented with the chance to speak to Hojbjerg over a potential transfer.
Erik ten Hag previously worked with Hojbjerg in 2013 during his time as manager of Bayern Munich’s reserve side.
While it remains to be seen whether Man United pursue a deal, they are hoping to bring in a new midfielder over the coming days.
Man United are also interested in Fiorentina‘s Sofyan Amrabat, having been linked with the Morocco international for the majority of the transfer window.
However, a recent report claimed that the 27-year-old is still waiting for the Red Devils to submit a formal offer.
There is a belief that Man United need to raise funds through player sales, before they can make further additions to their squad.
