Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal have been getting out their cheque books this summe
These are the latest transfer rumours from the Premier League and around the world on Friday, August 18.
United want to sign Evans
Manchester United want to sign Jonny Evans on a permanent deal in a shock move by the Old Trafford club.
Evans, who left United for West Brom in 2015, signed a short-term deal over the summer in order to maintain his own match fitness after his Leicester City contract expired. That United deal has now run out but Erik ten Hag wants to sign the Northern Irishman permanently.
The Dutchman has revealed they are in talks with the centre-back.
“In this moment, he is not (under contract) but we are talking,” Ten Hag said. “We will see. We are in talks and when we have news we will bring it.”
United’s pursuit of the former Foxes man has continued despite Harry Maguire’s £30million move to West Ham United appearing to have collapsed.
“I am happy he is here, we need a good squad,” the Dutchman said of his former captain.
“We have four good centre-halves and including Luke Shaw we have five, and we need it because we are going to play 50-60 games this season. All the players are internationals so we have a lot of load to cover.
“I am happy Harry Maguire is here. He is going to have to fight for his position as does everyone in the squad.
“He knows what I expect from him, what I expect from a centre-half. He can do it, he has the abilities to do it so now he has to show it. It is about character, to be convinced to play that role, he has all the abilities to do it.”
Liverpool ‘won’t give up’ on star
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp “won’t give up” on Bayern Munich star Ryan Gravenberch, believing him to be the “next piece of the puzzle”.
The Reds confirmed the signing of Japan midfielder Wataru Endo from German club Stuttgart on Friday but won’t stop there in their midfield recruitment, having missed out on Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo to Chelsea.
German outlet BILD state the Anfield club are “intensifying their efforts” to sign the Dutchman but are about £10million short at present.
Bayern are looking for a fee somewhere in the region of £30million for the 21-year-old and “could be ready to talk” should Liverpool get near that fee.
BILD state he is ‘“dissatisfied’” with life in Bavaria after a season of limited game-time, thus handing Klopp a boost in his attempts to land him.
Hall heads for medical
Chelsea youngster Lewis Hall is on his way to Newcastle United for a medical ahead of a proposed move to St James’ Park.
The left-back broke onto the scene last season at Stamford Bridge but has a fair few players in his way to break into the first-team picture on a regular basis, with Ben Chilwell the undisputed number one in his position.
Hall is set to join the Magpies on an initial one-year loan deal with an obligation to buy next summer. The fee is a whopping £28million plus £7million in add-ons.
“Let’s wait and see what happens today,” Toon boss Eddie Howe said on Friday. “He’s a player that I like, very versatile and really good potential.”
Sky Sports captured the teenager arriving in the north east for his medical examination.
Arsenal ‘open talks’ over Cancelo
Arsenal have reportedly opened talks to sign Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo.
The Gunners were rocked last weekend when new £40million signing Jurrien Timber went down injured against Nottingham Forest on his Premier League debut for the club.
It has subsequently been confirmed that the former Ajax man has damaged his ACL and will require surgery, ruling him out for the majority of the season.
It’s a heavy blow for Mikel Arteta, who is now set to look at Cancelo as a replacement. 90min report the Gunners could offer him a lifeline and a way out of the Etihad, having spent a spell on loan with Bayern Munich last season.
Barcelona also hold interest in the Portuguese international, who appears to have fallen out of favour with Pep Guardiola.
