A Tottenham star who’s proved a revelation under Ange Postecoglou has wowed Jamie O’Hara, with the ex-Spurs midfielder admitting his past doubts have been proved wrong.
Postecoglou has been a breath of fresh air during his brief stint in north London thus far, with the feel-good factor already returning despite selling Harry Kane.
Tottenham went toe-to-toe with Man Utd and traded blows during the first half of their Premier League clash on Saturday. However, it was a truly one-sided affair after the break with Spurs dominating their more expensively-assembled rivals.
Key to Tottenham’s superiority was unquestionably the midfield trio of Pape Sarr, Yves Bissouma and James Maddison.
Much is expected of Maddison following his £40m arrival from Leicester, though the remarkable turnarounds for Bissouma and Sarr will have Spurs fans in raptures.
Indeed, Sarr was an unused substitute more times than he made appearances in the Premier League last season. Bissouma, meanwhile, was generally used off the bench by former boss Antonio Conte before his season was later curtailed by an ankle injury.
But when TEAMtalk spoke to pundit Jamie O’Hara on behalf of Grosvenor Sport, it was Sarr in particular who came in for the loftiest praise.
“He’s a bit raw but he’s got a lot of ability,” said O’Hara. “I watched him play last season, I wasn’t sure, but Ange has come in and he looks to be getting the best out of him.
“I thought he was excellent against Manchester United. I thought he was brilliant alongside Bissouma. I thought wow, that is a midfield all of a sudden, you can sit and watch; young, vibrant, energetic, closing down.
“It’s early days, we’ll see what happens but him and Bissouma for me were the best players on the pitch along with Maddison as well.
“I think Maddison has come in and has been a breath of fresh air. I just wish we had him two years ago because he’s exactly what we needed. The midfield has been really good.”
Sarr cost in the region of £15m when plucked from French side Metz aged just 18 back in 2021. While it’s fair to say it’s taken a few years, the Spurs transfer is now beginning to look like a masterstroke.
