Is Jadon Sancho’s Man Utd career over? Fabrizio Romano explains
Jadon Sancho’s Manchester United career, in the opinion of Fabrizio Romano, is not necessarily gone.
After a very public argument with his manager Erik ten Hag, Sancho has made headlines over the past week.
Sancho was not included in Ten Hag’s 18-man roster for last week’s Premier League match against Arsenal.
Jadon wasn’t picked [today] based on his performance in training, Ten Hag responded when questioned about it following the 3-1 loss. At Manchester United, you have to perform at a certain level every day. Because of this, he wasn’t chosen for this game.
Sancho responded angrily to this right away on social media, disputing Ten Hag’s assertions.
What did Sancho say?
The statement Sancho issued read: “Please don’t believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue, I have conducted myself in training very well this week. I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won’t go into, I’ve been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair!
“All I want to do is cheer when I play football and help my team out. I appreciate all decisions made by the coaching staff, play alongside amazing players, and am thankful to be able to do so even though I am aware that it is a challenge each and every week. I won’t give up until I get this badge, no matter what.
Sancho has been linked with a January return to Borussia Dortmund, which has led many to speculate that he may never play again for United.
In contrast, Romano is optimistic that his Manchester United career can still be saved in advance of the two parties’ anticipated this week.
“Staying with United, I want to clarify again, because there is now so much being reported about Jadon Sancho, that I think there is a way back for him at Old Trafford,” Romano wrote on CaughtOffside.
“Let’s hear how Sancho and Erik ten Hag get along in their talk. There hasn’t been much of a difference, and Man United’s displeasure with his approach in training last week hasn’t changed. There is nothing new to say on worries about his mentality or personality on the club level.
Since arriving at Manchester United in the summer of 2021 for €85 million from Borussia Dortmund, Sancho has had a terrible time.
Since joining the Red Devils, the 22-year-old has made 82 appearances and scored just 12 goals.
Under three different Man Utd managers—Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick, and then Erik ten Hag—Sancho has underachieved.
