After allegedly turning down Liverpool, the £21 million player has agreed to join Manchester United.

Reported Liverpool target Sofyan Amrabat has agreed to join Manchester United this summer.

Amrabat has been linked with a host of clubs after impressing in last year’s World Cup with Morocco. Liverpool have been one of the clubs most readily suggested, with the 26-year-old even reported to have turned down a proposal from the Reds.

However, it looks like Amrabat has whittled his options down to just one club: United. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano via X, the Fiorentina man has never had any doubt over where he wants to be next season.

“Amrabat has no doubts: he said yes to Manchester United, he wants the move since first talks in June despite rich Saudi bids,” Romano reports.

“Understand he never said he’s “staying” or anything similar. Fake quotes. No official bid yet — Man Utd will send it as soon as Fred/Donny leave.”

Amrabat makes his choice

At various points, it has looked relatively likely that Liverpool might actually move to sign Amrabat.

However, on paper at least, the Fiorentina man isn’t necessarily the type of addition the Reds tend to make.

At 26 he isn’t exactly an old-timer, but he isn’t a young player either. Liverpool tend to do their shopping in the 21-25 bracket and even though they’re a little desperate right now, they aren’t going to change that philosophy.

By contrast, United have no qualms bringing in already established players who can do a job immediately. Looking at their midfield right now, Amrabat is probably a player who can do that.

For the reported £21m asking price [Calciomercato], Liverpool could certainly do a lot worse, too. Nevertheless, we’ll have to let this one go.

The Reds are instead seemingly focusing on both Romeo Lavia and Andre Trindade. Both could do a job in Amrabat’s favoured no.6 role.

Nevertheless, we can’t help but feel Liverpool may have let a bargain slip their net this summer. Unfortunately, it’ll be to United’s gain.
