MLB Power Rankings: Where Do World Series Champion Texas Rangers Rank For 2024?
The Texas Rangers won their first World Series title earlier this month, but it wasn’t quite enough to impress MLB.com’s voters when it came to their first 2024 power rankings.
For the first time since the World Series concluded, a group of eleven MLB.com writers cast votes on the 2024 power rankings. The Rangers, who defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks in five games, were ranked No. 2.
The only team that ended up ahead of them were the Atlanta Braves, who fell to the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL Division Series.MLB.com highlighted the Rangers’ incredible turnaround in two seasons, going from a 100-loss team to winning the World Series. It also pointed toward the pieces it has coming back in 2024, which including pitcher Max Scherzer — who should be healthy by Spring Training — and as complete a batting order as any team in the Majors.
Two of those hitters, Marcus Semien and Corey Seager, were named Silver Sluggers. The entire team won the first team Silver Slugger award.
Along with those veterans, the Rangers return three Gold Glove winners in Nathaniel Lowe, Jonah Heim and Adolis García.
García was also the American League Championship Series MVP.
The Rangers also have outfielder Evan Carter, who should play his first full season in 2024, along with third baseman Josh Jung, who had an impressive rookie season and was in the debate for AL Rookie of the Year before a thumb injury slowed his season in August.
As MLB.com wrote, “The Rangers aren’t going anywhere.”
The remaining Top 5 included Baltimore, Philadelphia and Tampa Bay. The Rangers swept Tampa Bay and Baltimore in the playoffs and swept Philadelphia in the regular season.
