Former Liverpool and England midfielder Danny Murphy thinks Manchester United star Scott McTominay can do better than West Ham United.
Scott McTominay is thought to be a key target for West Ham, but Murphy, speaking on talkSPORT, has suggested that he is good enough to play for a club in top six or seven.
The midfielder is not the only United player the Hammers seem to be keen on, with reports claiming that they are also interested in Harry Maguire.
According to Sky Sports, West Ham have made two separate £30m bids for the England international and McTominay.
The same outlet also claims that United value the latter closer to £45m, so it looks like the east London club will have to up their offer if they want to sign him this summer.
Discussing West Ham’s interest in McTominay, Murphy said: “I think he’s better than West Ham. It’s no disrespect to West Ham, it’s a compliment to him.
“They were nearly relegated. They were in the bottom three for God knows how long. He doesn’t want to go to a relegation battle when you’ve been playing at Man United and been the best player for his country. He’s a good player McTominay, super athletic, good footballer, scores goals. I think he’s a top six, top-seven player.”
West Ham may be Scott McTominay’s best option
McTominay has proven that he can play at a top six club in some capacity, having been in United’s squad for quite a while now.
However, none of their rivals appear to be interested in him at the moment, so the London Stadium may be the best destination available to the 26-year-old.
It will host Europa League football this season, while David Moyes, who is a good coach, is still in the dugout there.
Ultimately, while McTominay would probably love to join a side like Arsenal, for example, if he does decide to leave Old Trafford this summer, West Ham are not a terrible option. He could do a lot worse than Moyes’ side.
Considering that, it is a move he may consider. However, West Ham will have to bring more money to the table to land the Scotland international.
