These are the latest transfer rumours from the Premier League and around the world on Wednesday, August 16

Amrabat could arrive ‘in next few hours’Man Utd transfer news: When they will sign Sofyan Amrabat - Fabrizio Romano | FootballTransfers.com

La Nazione report Sofyan Amrabat could arrive in Manchester within the “next few hours”.

Manchester United are closing in on the Moroccan after a protracted quest to sign the Fiorentina star.

Earlier this week it was reported he had his bags packed for Old Trafford, having turned down other offers after it seemed he would sign for Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid. He also had interest from the Middle East and West Ham United.

But Erik ten Hag has seen Amrabat as a primary target and it looks as if they have finally got their man.

An offer of £21million is said to be enough to clinch his signature.

United’s poor display against Wolves in their season opener only served to hammer home their need for more creativity.

Reds to trigger £42.9m release clause

Reports in Portugal state Liverpool will trigger the release clause in Goncalo Inacio’s Sporting Lisbon contract to land the defender.

The Reds have been wrapped up in the battle with Chelsea to sign Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, both of whom now look set for Stamford Bridge.

Jurgen Klopp’s defence is an area that also needs work and outlet Diario de Noticias state they will sign the 21-year-old despite him being close to a new deal with the Portuguese giants.

The youngster currently has a release clause of £38.5million in his contract, but once he pens a new deal, it will increase to £42.9million.

The same publication state Liverpool will match that price tag. Manchester United and PSG have also looked at the left-sided centre-back.

Lavia jets in for Chelsea medical

Roméo Lavia is flying from Brussels to London today to complete his medical with Chelsea.

Lavia has been in his homeland since the start of the week, awaiting a deal to be struck between the Blues and Southampton.

Moisés Caicedo completed his British record transfer to Stamford Bridge earlier this week. Liverpool had been going head to head for both the Ecuadorian and Belgian and the Londoners have won over both players.

The Reds’ dithering over the deal convinced Lavia to opt for the Blues.

Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield overhaul is now complete and he’ll divert attentions to his striker department.

Arsenal eyeing Cancelo

Arsenal and Barcelona are going head to head to sign Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo.

The Gunners’ defensive plans have been plunged into uncertainty after a serious injury sustained by new signing Jurrien Timber last weekend.

A full prognosis is not yet known but it looked serious, with the former Ajax man expected to miss months of the season.

Cancelo has been on Mikel Arteta’s radar for some time and Arsenal are reportedly weighing up whether to gatecrash Barcelona’s loan move for the defender.

City maybe reluctant to strengthen one of their Premier League rivals, though, which may hand the Spanish giants an advantage in this race.
