The 10 most valuable players at Manchester United: Number one will shock you

Manchester United still has some incredibly talented players on their roster, despite some recent mistakes.

Old Trafford has already undergone a squad change under Erik ten Hag, who has added 10 permanent players and released 19 first-team players.

United, which placed third in the Premier League in 2022–2023, is attempting to catch up to Manchester City and Arsenal.

We’ve examined United’s top ten players using data from Transfermarkt.

10= Diogo Dalot – €40m

Dalot, one of Jose Mourinho’s final acquisitions at Old Trafford, moved to United from his hometown team Porto in 2018 for a fee of €21.6 million.

He’s become better and better under Ten Hag, and he just pledged his future to the team by signing a new five-year contract.

Additionally, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, a fellow United right back who is presently valued at €25 million, is ranked lower than the Portugal international.

9= Casemiro – €40m

Due to his impressive resume, Casemiro joined United last year. While playing for Real Madrid, he won three La Liga championships and five Champions Leagues.

He had an outstanding first season at Old Trafford in 2022–2023 and scored the game-winning goal against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final.

The oldest player on this list at 31, however, wasn’t a long-term investment for United, and his market value is only €40 million.

8. Luke Shaw – €42m

The longest-tenured player at Old Trafford, Shaw joined United in the summer of 2014 for a reported €37.5 million.

Due to a double leg break in 2015, the left-back suffered under Jose Mourinho, but he has since turned into one of United’s top performers.

Ten Hag says he has shown a number of leadership qualities. He is currently setting an exemplary example for the squad and makes a substantial contribution with his skills and strength.

But now he’s got his mindset too. He is a fantastic illustration of how to win crucial battles. I’m ecstatic with his development. I think that significantly altered the situation at left or center halfback. He is a tremendous athlete and has a nice attitude in the locker room.

Shaw is now the joint-most valuable left-back in the Premier League, along with Oleksandr Zinchenko of Arsenal.

7= Jadon Sancho – €45m

Sancho, formerly one of the most intriguing young players in the world, transferred from Borussia Dortmund to United in 2021 for a fee of €85 million.

However, he has had trouble maintaining his Bundesliga form in the Premier League and has come under fire for his lack of discipline off the field.

After writing a contentious social media post and refusing to apologize to Erik ten Hag, the 23-year-old was recently barred from first-team training.

Sancho’s market value has decreased from $100 million to $45 million in his first two and a half years at Old Trafford.

6= Rasmus Hojlund – €45m

In the past 16 months, Hojlund has had a stratospheric ascent, and his market worth has surged tenfold, from €4.5 million to €45 million.

Following their agreement to pay Atalanta an initial €75 million plus €10 million in future add-ons, United agreed to sign the 20-year-old striker in the summer.

He’s had a bright start to his Old Trafford career, and the next seasons should see continued growth in his market value.

5. Lisandro Martinez – €50m

Martinez was acquired by United from Ajax in 2022 in a deal costing an initial €57.37 million against competition from Arsenal.

The 5 foot 9 inch center defender disproved early concerns that he wouldn’t be strong enough to handle the Premier League and had an outstanding first season at Old Trafford.

The international from Argentina is presently United’s most expensive defender, and he’s teamed up incredibly well with Raphael Varane, who is worth €35 million.

Despite the fact that his current contract doesn’t expire until 2027, United is apparently aiming to extend it and give him a hefty raise in salary.

4= Mason Mount – €60m

With almost 150 appearances for his hometown team after graduating from Chelsea’s academy, Mount won their Player of the Year title in 2020–2021 and 2021/22.

Despite having a challenging 2022–2023 season, the midfielder made enough of an impression on Ten Hag that United paid €64.2 million to buy him.

John Murtough, director of football at United, said, “His style of play and attributes are a perfect fit for this squad, and we all believe that he will only improve further by working with Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff.”

“Mason is a world-class player in his own right, but he also has the capacity to elevate those around him through his keen sense of the game and tactical awareness.

3= Antony – €60m

In the summer of 2022, Antony, the second-most expensive acquisition in United’s history, signed a €100 million contract and relocated to Old Trafford.

In his first season at United, he scored eight goals and added three assists, increasing his market value from €35 million to €60 million.

However, the 23-year-old winger has alienated some fans with his erratic performances and over-reliance on his left foot.

According to ESPN, United executives acknowledge in secret that they overpaid for the Brazilian international, but they are certain that he will eventually make up for it.

2. Bruno Fernandes – €75m

Since moving to United in January 2020 for €55 million, Fernandes has made a name for himself as one of the top players in the Premier League.

The Portuguese international, who has scored 66 goals in all competitions, is well known for his inventiveness and has been a consistent goal scorer at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag, who had been pleased by his leadership abilities, gave him the captaincy in the summer, underscoring his significance to United.

Ten Hag stated that Bruno always gives us a lot. He is an example on the pitch, talking and giving energy. There are many skills required to be the ideal captain, and I believe he possesses them.

His main skills are his energy, his defence transition is great, and also his final pass is very good. So three hugely-rated skills he has, besides others as well.

1. Marcus Rashford – €80m

Although United has recently completed a number of high-profile acquisitions, an academy graduate tops the list.

Since making his varsity debut in February 2016, Rashford has grown to be one of the game’s most lethal attackers.

In 56 appearances across all competitions, the 25-year-old had his best-ever season in 2022–23, scoring 30 goals and dishing out 11 assists.

His market value has already increased to €80 million, though it would probably take much more to lure him away from Old Trafford. He has since signed a new five-year contract.
