The reason Hatters was set back by Hammers defeat…

Luton Town manager Rob Edwards confirmed that club captain Tom Lockyer missed Friday night’s 2-1 loss to West Ham United due to a quad injury.

Town’s boss had sounded hopeful about his chances of playing against the Irons in his pre-match press conference before the Hatters’ 3-2 Carabao Cup triumph against Gillingham on Tuesday evening.

However, he was not included in the team that faced the Hammers, as Edwards said afterwards: “It was a little too soon for him.”

“I couldn’t talk about it yesterday, but it was just a little tweak in his quad, so hopefully he won’t be out for too long.”

With Mads Andersen taking over in the center of Town’s defense three, Reece Burke was on the right and Amari’i Bell was on the left as they battled with the visiting attackers, which featured Michail Antonio, for long stretches, limiting them to three shots on target.

Sadly, Jarrod Bowen and Kurt Zouma scored, with Andersen’s late header serving as a small consolation, but Edwards added: “It was a good start, people probably expect us to start fast here, and we wanted to.”

“We’ve got to keep that balance of being aggressive and pressing high, playing forward, running forward, but also getting compact so no one can play through us, and I thought we did that pretty well tonight.”

“We tried to play as much as possible in their half, so there were a lot of things there I can be pleased with and build on, but I really want to reward these incredible supporters with some points.”
