The gifted Teden Mengi is already in line to make his Premier League debut after impressing Rob Edwards, the manager of Luton Town after Teden Mengi left Manchester United.
The former England U20 international spent 15 years as a Manchester United player without making a single Premier League appearance. Teden Mengi made quite the impact when switching from the Red Devils to newly promoted Luton Town in the closing 24 hours of the summer transfer window, and it might only take him less than three weeks to earn a Premier League debut in the colors of his new team.
T’s training has been excellent, Hatters manager Edwards grins to Luton Today. In addition to the immediate future, we also brought in “T” to consider the long term.
He’s a terrific physical specimen and a fantastic age. He currently has a really, extremely good appearance.
Edwards is naturally hesitant to throw Teden Mengi into the deep end because of the player’s success after joining Manchester United. Particularly when the Manchester-born defender recovered from a nagging hamstring injury that dashed his dreams of becoming a star at his home club.
Luton hopes to earn their first points of the new season on Saturday afternoon at Fulham, albeit an outstanding week on the practice field seems to have somewhat allayed Edwards’ anxieties.
He’s looking very good, adds the former Watford manager. And he’s definitely in the running. If he continues to practice as well as he has, he needs to be considered for selection because he has looked very, very good.
But, again, he’s a young player with one or two injuries in his recent past, so the pressure to come in right away and perform isn’t as great.
‘Extremely talented.’
Edwards, who scouted Mengi’s former United teammate Axel Tuanzebe before to his move to Ipswich Town, feels the 21-year-old can play anywhere in Luton’s three-man backline, either on the right or left.
Edwards reveals that Mengi’s adaptability was one of the main reasons Luton were’really keen’ to sign him in the first place.
He’s a tremendously skilled young player. Athletically, (Mengi) looks fantastic, Edwards concludes. And he’s going to be perfect for us.
