Mohamed Salah has now held direct talks with Liverpool after the Saudi Pro League doubled its offer to the forward in the hopes of agreeing to his transfer to Al-Ittihad.
Liverpool have no interest in letting Salah leave and do not want to hold any talks about any transfer with Al-Ittihad. The Saudi Pro League team were previously willing to offer the Reds £52m. But they now wish to understand Salah’s position on the move before tabling any bid.
Liverpool speak with Salah’s camp about Al-Ittihad’s offer
Al-Ittihad had also prepared a €180m (£154.5m), two-year contract to tempt Salah to follow Fabinho to the Pro League. But in their desperation to sign the Egypt hero, the Saudi side are now happy to double their offer to €360m (£309m). He would earn almost £3m every week.
Should Salah show any willingness to accept the mega-money move, Al-Ittihad would begin approaching Liverpool to tempt them into accepting his transfer. The 88-cap winger is so far yet to express his stance. But Salah’s camp have spoken to Liverpool about Al-Ittihad’s offer.
But Salah faces having to try to force a move away from Anfield, should he want to secure a transfer to Al-Ittihad. Despite Liverpool’s awareness of the substantial salary on offer, Reds chiefs have not eased their opposition. They are determined to retain Salah on Merseyside.
Salah is open to joining Al-Ittihad but will let the Reds decide
It remains to be seen if he is prepared to force a move. Rudy Galetti also noted recently that while Salah is open to a transfer to Al-Ittihad, he will let Liverpool decide. That was also after Kenny Cunningham claimed Jurgen Klopp ‘embarrassed’ Salah when substituted at Chelsea.
Klopp took a clearly disgruntled Salah off in the 77th minute at Stamford Bridge after laying on an assist. Salah also scored his first goal of the 2023/24 Premier League season at home to AFC Bournemouth last Saturday. He played 86 minutes in their 3-1 win over the Cherries.
