Liverpool have outbid Chelsea for PL superstar but the deal is far from done
According to a tweet from Matt Law who mostly covers Chelsea, Liverpool have outbid the West London club for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo ahead of a potential move this summer.
It is also revealed that the Chelsea bid for Romeo Lavia last night was linked to the fact that the Reds have stolen a financial march on them for Caicedo.
But, there is a feeling that the Ecuador international will still move to Stamford Bridge. Liverpool-based journalist James Pearce has reported the same thing while mentioning that Liverpool have only made contact with Brighton to discuss the price that would involve if they are to make a move for the 21-year-old.
Here’s the text version of what Law tweeted:
“Understand Liverpool have outbid Chelsea for Moises Caicedo which would also help explain Chelsea’s bid for Lavia. Suggestion however remains that Caicedo would prefer Chelsea move. More to follow”
We have seen growing frustrations regarding the direction Liverpool have taken to make the Lavia move happen. It probably enticed Chelsea to make an offer last night.
But, we can say the same thing about the Blues now. They knew the price needed to sign Caicedo yet made bids lower than that. Their latest offer worth £80m was immediately rejected by Brighton.
Now, with the opening game of the season less than three days away, we are witnessing an almighty scramble between the two clubs who desperately need a defensive-minded midfielder in their squad. As a matter of fact, Liverpool do not even have one defensive midfielder in their squad.
