Liverpool could reignite their interest in a Premier League transfer target after missing out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.

It’s no secret that Liverpool are after a new holding midfielder after losing the likes of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho in the same window.

With Klopp keen to improve Liverpool’s defensive record this year, signing a holding midfielder is seen as a top priority.

Although Liverpool have been unsuccessful in their attempts to six a number six so far, they could go back in for one of their former targets.

According to Jacque Talbot, Liverpool could go in for Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes, who Liverpool have been long-term admirers of.

“Told Liverpool could make an approach for Wolves’ Matheus Nunes,” Talbot reported on Twitter.

“Khephren Thuram is another thought to be back on the radar – Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall considered a Jordan Henderson replacement.”

Nunes is contracted with Wolves until the summer of 2027, with the option of a further year in his contract.

However, Wolves have had to tiptoe around FFP rules of late and could decide to cash in on the midfielder if his valuation is met.

The Portuguese midfielder impressed against Man Utd and would be a solid addition for Klopp’s side.

Last month Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Nunes was on Liverpool’s watchlist in January, but a move didn’t materialise at the time.

“Matheus Nunes – A player linked with big moves in recent times, but Wolves already lost Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves in the midfield this summer, so there’s no news at all about Nunes right now,” Romano told Caught Offside last month.

“Wolves will do their best to keep him. For sure he was on Liverpool’s list in January.”

Dewsbury-Hall is another interesting transfer link which has recently emerged. The Leicester City midfielder has started the new season well with two goals and an assist in his first couple of matches.

He is under contract until 2027 and Leicester would likely demand a large transfer fee for the 24-year-old.
